This is an interesting and amusing story in rhyme。 A busker and his cat, Tabby McTat, entertain people with their guitar and singing, until one day an accident happens and they lose each other。 Tabby McTat makes a new life for himself, but misses his busker friend。 One day he sets out to find his friend。 Nicely told and illustrated story。
Adelina,
OOh, how lovey is this book? Tabby McTat is lovely cat!
Villain E,
Tabby McTat is a cat who enjoys singing along with a busker。 One day Tabby goes wandering and meets a cat friend and, while he's away, his busker friend has an incident and is taken to a hospital。 Tabby comes looking for his busker friend, who's disappeared。 So Tabby goes back to his cat friend and they start a family。 The busker comes back looking for Tabby but doesn't find him。 Years later, Tabby and his kids are out wandering the neighborhood and they find the busker。 Tabby wants to stay with Tabby McTat is a cat who enjoys singing along with a busker。 One day Tabby goes wandering and meets a cat friend and, while he's away, his busker friend has an incident and is taken to a hospital。 Tabby comes looking for his busker friend, who's disappeared。 So Tabby goes back to his cat friend and they start a family。 The busker comes back looking for Tabby but doesn't find him。 Years later, Tabby and his kids are out wandering the neighborhood and they find the busker。 Tabby wants to stay with his busker friend but he also wants to stay with his family。I don't think I've read a picture book like this; a story spanning years。 I know Julia Donaldson has done some busking herself, so I'm not surprised she worked it into a story。 But, despite being a story about singing, the rhyme in this struggles to stay on tempo。 。。。more

This was a bit of a difficult one to read well, but the story line was cute。

Moral; sometimes you have to sacrifice things for what you really desire。
Fny,
So I really love picture books by Julia Donaldson。As with the rhyming and all that but this one was long and sometimes the rhymes didn’t make much sense。
Elizabeth Riley,
I really wasn't a fan of the rhyming pattern in this one, and my 2 year old isn't so keep either (although Julia Donaldson is definitely her fave at the moment)。 Perhaps one to put aside until she's a little older。 I really wasn't a fan of the rhyming pattern in this one, and my 2 year old isn't so keep either (although Julia Donaldson is definitely her fave at the moment)。 Perhaps one to put aside until she's a little older。 。。。more
Chris Hays,
This has a silly little song to go with the rhyme of the cat singing along。 I enjoy the challenge of the rhymes at the end of the lines, but Luka only makes it through the entire book 50% of the time。
Bella,
Another winner from the Donaldson-Scheffler team。
Mesca Elin,
An enjoyable book about friends, loyalty, family, songs and cats。 A purr-fectly read
JC,
I loved this book and so did my kiddo。 It was interesting and unique but also easy for my 31/2 year old to follow along。
Lara,
A busker and his cat live happily together, performing on the streets, until separated by theft and injury。 What follows is a story about friends, family, music, individuality, finding happiness。。。 and cats! Donaldson's rhymes are flowing and not ridiculously sing-songy, and Scheffler's illustrations are cute with some nice hidden details。 So, pretty standard for this pair's work! Would make a fun read after traveling to a big city too (several types of buskers and street performers are featured A busker and his cat live happily together, performing on the streets, until separated by theft and injury。 What follows is a story about friends, family, music, individuality, finding happiness。。。 and cats! Lauren,
This was not my favourite Julia Donaldson story, but still had a rich vocab with a lovely rhyming pattern and lovely illustrations for young children to enjoy。
Emma,
This would be a great book to share with children in FS and KS1。 It has rhyme throughout which helps to provide a pace for reading aloud and there are lots of opportunities for children to predict what they think might happen next。 Tabby McTat gets separated from his owner who is a busker, but then he gets to live with a different family。 He still misses his owner and eventually they were reunited。 It's a lovely story with great illustrations which makes it an enjoyable book for children。 This would be a great book to share with children in FS and KS1。 It has rhyme throughout which helps to provide a pace for reading aloud and there are lots of opportunities for children to predict what they think might happen next。 Tabby McTat gets separated from his owner who is a busker, but then he gets to live with a different family。 He still misses his owner and eventually they were reunited。 It's a lovely story with great illustrations which makes it an enjoyable book for children。 。。。more
Micky Sahi,
This book says never be quick to judge。 You never liked this at first but as you got older you always used to point at the knitted yarn balls on every page thinking they were play balls and you’d squeal with joy。

Good reading with the little one。

An absolute favourite! And not just for little ones。 The story is very heartwarming and unique (not sure if "A street cat named Bob" was an inspiration)。 The illustrations are so vivid, they transport me to London every time。 The small details - rubbish on the ground, people working in an office building, homeless under a bridge, mishmash of old and new architecture, wrought iron fences, neighbour casually painting a wall in his back garden - add so much dimension。 Highly recommended! 10 out of 5 stars。 I can recite the entire book from memory, which allows me to braid my kids' hair while they turn the pages。 The emotions, the illustrations, the lilting cadence of the stanzas。。。 It's lovely。 And wow do those kids get worried when the sun goes down and the sky goes black, the stars come out and he didn't come back。。。 OH NO IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN 10 out of 5 stars。 I can recite the entire book from memory, which allows me to braid my kids' hair while they turn the pages。 The emotions, the illustrations, the lilting cadence of the stanzas。。。 It's lovely。 And wow do those kids get worried when the sun goes down and the sky goes black, the stars come out and he didn't come back。。。 OH NO IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN 。。。more

A great cat and busker tale with a catchy song to go along with it! It gets sad in the middle so it left me yearning to know the end, which doesn't tend to happen in kid's books。 A great cat and busker tale with a catchy song to go along with it! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Tabby McTat the buskers cat is an unusual story for children (as someone that works with SEN) , I found that the morals of the story are kinda messed up。 My main issues are that A) Tabby has ‘fun’ times with a rich lady cat and has 3 kittens but totally forgets about his best friend/owner B) He enjoys being with a rich cat C) When he does find his owner, he still wants to live with his lady cat, so Tabby gives his scruffy looking son to the busker, so basically A) gives his ugly son away and B) Tabby McTat the buskers cat is an unusual story for children (as someone that works with SEN) , I found that the morals of the story are kinda messed up。 My main issues are that A) Tabby has ‘fun’ times with a rich lady cat and has 3 kittens but totally forgets about his best friend/owner B) He enjoys being with a rich cat C) When he does find his owner, he still wants to live with his lady cat, so Tabby gives his scruffy looking son to the busker, so basically A) gives his ugly son away and B) Kicking his son out of a warm rich home to live with a poor homeless street man。There’s no clear good morals in this story。 The writing has a great flow and illustrations are fantastic but it’s really hard to suggest this book, if your trying to help your children learn good morals。 。。。more
